Yearbook Fun

I recently discovered this super-addicting Web site, Yearbook Yourself, where you can see what you would have looked like in High School in various decades.  What’s scary is I actually HAD some of those featured hairdos in the 90′s.  These two are my favorite ones:

me1966

Me circa 1966 – This is a poofed-up version of my hairdo now.  I think I would have loved being in high school in the 60′s.

me1982

Me circa 1982 – I look like the Mom from That 70′s Show!

These are hysterical. I emailed this site to my friend, Brie, and she posted about it on her blog which inspired me to do the same.  If you “yearbook yourself” be sure and leave a comment so I can go check out the fun!

I don’t know what is worse–the fact that Disney makes Hannah Montana Vitamins or the fact that The Little Write Gal takes them? (LOL)

My Favorite Holiday Recipe

mdxmaspartyday4

Welcome to Day #4 of MomDot’s Blog Party! Today’s question is sponsored by Bottlewise and Glow Mama.

What is your favorite holiday recipe? Describe your holiday table and your biggest holiday cooking disaster.

My favorite holiday recipe has to be my Cranberry Gelatin Salad.  You know it’s good when you get invited to parties and the host requests you bring this dish.  My family insists on it at our holiday gatherings.  It is kid-friendly too because even though it has cranberries in it, The Little Write Gal loves it because it has Jello!  You should try it for your next Christmas party.  It looks gorgeous if you serve it in a glass bowl.

Cranberry Gelatin Salad

Ingredients:
1 package (6 ounces) cherry gelatin
1-1/2 cups boiling water
1 can (20 ounces) crushed pineapple, undrained
1 can (16 ounces) whole-berry cranberry sauce
1-1/2 cups seedless red grapes, halved
1/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
In a large bowl, dissolve gelatin in water. Stir in pineapple and cranberry sauce. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Stir in grapes and pecans. Pour into a 2-qt. serving bowl. Refrigerate until firm. Yield: 8-10 servings.

My holiday table usually just has our china on it for parties because there is normally so much food at my house it is sitting everywhere on the kitchen countertops, even on the stove.  I have never really had any holiday cooking disasters — at least not yet.  I hope I don’t have one this year since I just typed this.

My Christmas Blog Design

A great big THANK YOU to my good friend Kim over at JA Blog Graphics for giving The Write Gal a little holiday bling!  Notice her fancy elf shoes which I love. I feel so festive now maybe it will motivate me to do some Christmas shopping.  Kim has an awesome blog “What’s That Smell?” that is in my blogroll.  If you aren’t reading it, you should be.  Kim is fantastic!

MomDot’s Blog Party – Come & Join the Fun!

xmasofdreams32

I am so far behind this week! Today is Day #3 of the awesome Blog Party over at MomDot which lasts until November 28th.  Unfortunately I missed posting on Days 1 &2! Each day you are supposed to post about the topic of the day, link back to the post, and go comment on other blogs. You can read the complete how-to here. You could win some awesome prizes!

Today’s question is sponsored by  Appledonia, Hippo Toes, and My Bag.

When do you start Christmas shopping?  How do you budget for Christmas?  Do you stick to your budget?

I don’t have a specific time that I begin Christmas shopping.  I do remember way back before the Little Write Gal was born I always had my shopping done before Thanksgiving.  Since I became a Mommy I am lucky to get it done before Christmas.  But that is okay with me because the later I shop the more in the season I get.  Now I am not one of those people who wait until Christmas Eve and enjoy the last minute thing.  I generally will finish by about December 15th at the latest.  I haven’t even thought about it this year!

I do find creating a budget for shopping is very beneficial for several reasons.  First of all it allows me to spend equally for my nephews.  Secondly by writing down what I spend as I go I can keep up with who I still need to buy for.  Also making a budget allows me not to overspend at Christmas.

Macy’s “Believe Campaign” Benefits the Make-a-Wish Foundation

Writing letters to Santa Claus is an age-old Christmas tradition for children all over the world. This Christmas, after your little one writes their letter to Santa, deliver it to your local Macy’s and support a great cause.  Macy’s is collecting these letters in a special Santa letterbox at all Macy’s stores. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Believe Meter will measure America’s belief, based on our collective spirit – including the amount of letters received and other current events that reflect the season’s generosity.

Macy’s even has special “Santa Stationery” your little one can download to use when writing their special letter to Santa.  Take your letters to Santa to benefit a wonderful cause and do some shopping while you are there!

Custom Photo Notepad Review and Giveaway!

note1

You have to put these on your “to buy” list for Christmas! These custom photo notepads from Couture Invito are the PERFECT gift, to buy for yourself, a relative, or that friend who has everything. Your favorite photograph can be made into a 100-page notepad (containing 10% Recycled Fiber) which can then be personalized with your perfect message. The photo notepads are available in both black and white and color.   Your recipient will be able to enjoy their gift for months after the Christmas season!  And they are affordable too!  I have seen professional photography studios sell the same thing at double the price.  You can cut out the “middle man” and order directly from Couture Invito.  The store owner, Alesa, sent me a sample to review and let me tell you…the paper quality is excellent.  You will love your purchase; I promise!

I love the origin of the name Couture Invito; “Couture” with the thought of quality designs, timeless sentiment and endless possibilities. “Invito” the Italian word for invitations symbolizing love of all things Italian (food, wine, style, and family).  The owner and designer, Alesa, has more than 10 years of experience in graphic design and advertising, and is stay-at-home/work-from-home mother of two with a great love of paper and stationery. In addition to great paper and stationery products, Couture Invito also sells photo jewelry, baby gifts, and my latest obsession THE MOM AGENDA which if you didn’t read my post about that go here.

I am excited that Couture Invito is offering a giveaway of one of their custom black and white notepads to a lucky Write Gal reader.  To enter, go visit their site and tell me in a comment what your favorite product is other than the notepad.  You can gain five (5) extra entries by blogging about this contest with a link to Couture Invito and to me.  But be sure and leave me five (5) separate comments telling me you did so because the winner will be drawn randomly on November 19, 2008.  The contest is open to U.S. addresses only please.

Good Luck!
