My Recipe is Famous

My friend Kim from What’s That Smell? wrote a blog post today about my Slow Cooker Lasagna Recipe.  So now I am famous – LOL!  You should definitely read Kim’s article which is hilarious.  She likes to prepare packaged meals in the “magic cooking box” aka The Microwave and does not profess to be a cook.  Like I told Kim it is all about having the right recipe.  I don’t profess to be a great cook (I taught myself), but usually just like my Grandmother did I can tell by a recipe if something will be a hit. My family definitely likes this dish.  Check out the recipe on Kim’s blog and hopefully your family will like it too!

I may have to blog about another favorite recipe of mine soon so I can help Kim out with another great dish she can feed her family.  Thanks for posting about mine Kim!

Mommy Guilt

JuneCleaverThis week my friend Trisha from Sweet ‘N Sassy Girls wrote a fantastic post entitled, “Moms, Why Do We Feel Guilty.”  She talked very eloquently about how Moms feel guilty when they want to take some time away from their kids for a little “me” time.  This is from her post:

My question is, why do we feel so guilty about having some time to ourselves? We come back refreshed and a better mom/wife/person. We are more relaxed after, and happier. What’s that saying? When momma ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy?

I definitely agree that as Moms we carry a sense of  guilt around if we want to spend some time by ourselves or with friends, without our kids.  And I think that is unfortunate.  Everyone deserves some time to recharge their batteries. It will make you a better Mom and a better person.

Another area where I think we experience “Mommy Guilt” is with housework.  I will admit that I am not the best housekeeper in the world and I often feel guilty because I am not June Cleaver material.  If I fix the Little Write Gal pizza rolls instead of a meat and three vegetables for supper I feel guilty.  I feel guilty when the house is a mess and she wants me to stop cleaning to watch a movie with her.  Does it really matter in the long run if there are toys in your living room, dishes in the sink, or if your child’s room is a mess?  No it doesn’t.  Because one day when our children are gone and are away at college or living on their own I am sure I would give anything to see a little toy scattered on my floor.

Take a few hours away from your kids to refresh yourself and don’t feel guilty about it.  Don’t worry about the dishes in the sink when your child asks you to play with them. Say goodbye to Mommy Guilt.

Stylish Swimwear from SlimPerfect (Review & Giveaway – CLOSED)

slimperfect2During our recent beach vacation this year to Topsail Island I had the opportunity to wear a gorgeous swimsuit from SlimPerfect.  SlimPerfect is a line of swimwear designed for real women, not stick thin models in size zero bodies.  I have to say this is the most comfortable I have ever felt in a bathing suit since I had The Little Write Gal. SlimPerfect is available in sizes 8-20 and has a wide variety of options including swim dresses, tankinis, capris, and more.  I chose the SlimDress which has biker shorts underneath. Not only did I feel comfortable, I also felt pretty.  Pretty and swimsuit are not two words I typically use in the same sentence.  Normally I wear a coverup on top of my swimsuit and take it off only when necessary, or not at all.  With SlimPerfect I felt great without a coverup and for once was not embarrassed by my bathing suit body.  I have to say I felt very chic and stylish. Check out these before and after pictures and other info from the SlimPerfect Web site:

SlimPerfect Inc. developed a versatile yet unique line of swimwear/activewear that is designed by a woman for women and was inspired by the need to feel comfortable, confident and sophisticated all the while providing the quality and options women today deserve.

All SlimPerfect separates are manufactured in the USA with top of the line Brazilian fabric. The separates line can be utilized as either swimwear or activewear and many are interchangeable so the versatility and options women have is second to none!

SlimPerfect Swimwear & Activewear creates an option for the active, yet chic woman who loves to workout but wants to look great doing it and then move straight out to poolside for a dip while still looking sexy.

SlimperfectmeBut don’t just take my word for it!  O Magazine recently listed SlimPerfect in an article titled “Best Bathing Suit for Any Body (Yes, We Mean Yours)” as “Best Brands for Sizes 12 & Up” and “To Take Inches Off.” You can read the article here.  Speaking of taking inches off, you know that I don’t usually like pictures of myself and most definitely don’t put a lot of them on my blog but I wanted you to see me in my SlimPerfect swim dress.  I LOVE IT!

So what are you watching this Summer?

I am probably the only crazy person on the planet who actually watches MORE T.V. in the Summer than the rest of the year. I think it’s because I am not teaching during the Summer so I have more free time. Here is what I am watching right now.

  thecosbyshow

The Cosby Show

The Little Write Gal and I have been watching The Cosby Show reruns on TV Land.  I loved this show as a kid and it is fun watching the episodes again with my daughter.  I would much rather watch The Huxtables than reruns of Hannah Montana which I have seen every episode at least twice.

tori&dean

Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood

I have watched Tori Spelling since the very first season of Beverly Hills 90210.  It’s probably no surprise that I love watching Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, Tori’s reality show on the Oxygen Network.  Hey Tori don’t you know that a reality show with your husband could spell marriage disaster?  Think Nick & Jessica, The Hogans,  and Jon and Kate.  I hope Tori & Dean last longer than these now defunct marriages and past reality shows.

castle

Castle

If you are a fan of Desperate Housewives then you may remember Nathan Fillion who played Katherine Mayfair’s husband.  Fillion has his own ABC show called Castle which I have been watching in reruns this summer.  He plays a mystery novelist Rick Castle who helps the NYPD homicide department solve crimes.  Fillion stars opposite Stana Katic who plays Detective Kate Beckett.  This show reminds me of Moonlighting which I watched in the 1980s.

So what are you watching this summer?

Mitchel Musso CD Giveaway (CLOSED)

mitchellmussoIf you have any Hannah Montana fans in your house, then they are bound to know about Mitchel Musso who plays Oliver on the hit Disney show.  Musso just came out with his self-titled CD, Mitchel Musso, from Walt Disney Records.  The album features three songs co-written by Musso, plus a collaboration with his brother Mason from Metro Station. The CD unlocks an exclusive stream of “Let’s Make This Last 4 Ever” performed on Hannah Montana and includes a fold-out poster.  The Little Write Gal loves this CD and she plays it all the time.  As a Mom, I love it because the lyrics are very age appropriate and I do not have to worry about objectionable language as I do with some other pop artists.  You can watch the video for the debut single “Hey” here:

My friends at Walt Disney records have very generously offered two lucky Write Gal readers a chance to win a copy of Mitchel Musso’s CD!  The contest is open to U.S. residents only and ends 11:59 p.m. EST on July 24th.

Main Entry:

Leave me a comment telling me why you want to win.

Extra Entries:

  • What is your (or your son or daughter’s) favorite Hannah Montana character? – 5 extra entries
  • Subscribe to my blog – 5 extra entries
