Ashes loves riding in the car.  I took this pic of him this week looking out the window.  Happy WW!

Future blogger in the house

futurebloggerYesterday the Little Write Gal asked me if she could make her own vlog.  How many 8 year olds do you know who know what the word “vlog” is? LOL :)  Well of course I said yes.  So here you go, for your viewing enjoyment is the Little Write Gal’s very own vlog (also starring our fabulous rat terrier, Ashes).

Ashes and his Second Surgery

nov08ashesYesterday our rat terrier, Ashes, had his second operation on the leg that he broke back in September.  The x-rays revealed that the broken leg was healing fine but the screws from the metal plate were irritating his ulna.  Ashes had those removed as well as the metal pin in his elbow.  Thankfully no cast this time but he does have stitches that we will have to get removed in two weeks. During that time he has to wear a collar (again!) and be taken outside only on a leash.  If you have seen Ashes you know that restraining him with a leash is almost impossible.  I am sure he will once again be dragging me around in the yard.

I never knew that having a pet was so expensive.  We have spent tons on Ashes and he is only six months old.  The next time we get a pet I will make sure I don’t bring it home until it is fully insured.  Regrettably Ashes does not have any insurance and he is ineligible to get it now since he had surgery. hollyashes1stday3rdgrade1

Look how much he has grown.  The picture to the right is from September.  I just snapped the one to your left today.

Get well soon Ashes!

Meet Our Newest Family Member

Meet “Ashes,” a beautiful puppy that we gave to The Little Write Gal for her 8th birthday.  We just got him last Saturday and two days later poor Ashes broke his leg in two places.  He had to have surgery because the break was so bad – he broke the radius and the ulna.  The fine vet surgeons at Carolina Veterinary Specialists fixed him right up.  If you live in NC and ever need emergency treatment for your pet you should definitely go there.  Ashes has to wear a cast for two weeks until his stitches come out.  We have to put a little doggie boot on the cast when he goes outside to keep it dry.  He also has to wear an Elizabethan collar to keep him from seeing his foot and chewing on it.

Ashes is a rat terrier and only weighs 5 pounds at the moment.  His cast is bigger than he is!  He should only get to be about 18 pounds fully grown.  You can see in this picture of Carrie Underwood and her rat terrier, Ace, what a full grown “rattie” looks like.   Get well soon Ashes!
