Layers Clothing Review and Giveaway (ends 5/18)

layersclothing1My regular readers know I LOVE to shop for clothes which is why I am excited to introduce you to Layers Clothing, a company that sells stylish fashions at affordable prices.  Layers features comfortable clothing that can be easily mixed and matched, including shapewear, t-shirts, tops, and swimwear.  From the Layers Clothing Web site:

What was once only a dream is now the art of layering with comfort and versatility.  Layer’s style is humble but edgy, sweet  but sassy.  We invite you to live the layered life.

Recently I had the chance to review two  items from their line, the Classic Lace Tee from their Basics line and the Clementine bathing suit.  The Classic Lace Tee is a fitted t-shirt which features a rounded neckline, cap sleeves, and a touch of lace at the bottom hem. It is available in several colors including black, white, cream, cocoa and comes in sizes XS-XL.  This t-shirt is dressy enough for the office but casual enough to look great with jeans.  I liked it because it was stylish but comfortable at the same time.

layersclothing2The next item I reviewed was the Clementine bathing suit.  This is why I LOVE the swimwear from this company.  You can purchase it in pieces which means you can order two different sizes if you need to.  You are no longer forced to purchase a one piece swimsuit from the mall if you happen to be like a lot of women who are not equally proportioned on the top and bottom.  The Clementine is a gorgeous mango and burgundy floral print halter tankini.  It features a gathered drawstring neckline with a front-lined top and removable bra pads. The bottoms are fully lined with fold over band detail.  Their swimsuits come in sizes XS-XL. I liked the swimsuit because I felt fashionable while modest at the same time.  I also didn’t feel like I had on a “Granny” style bathing suit.  This is a great swimsuit for Moms!

Layers Clothing is offering one lucky Write Gal reader a $25 e-gift certificate. The contest is open to US & Canada residents only. To enter, all you have to do is visit the Layers Clothing Web site and tell me in a comment which item you would purchase with your gift certificate.

A Cool Web Site and Giveaway! (CLOSED)

cool1I am so excited to introduce you to I used to be cool, a hilarious Web site that sells shirts and other products based on the idea that at some point in our lives we all used to be cool.  You guys know what I am talking about: we were cool in high school, super cool in college, a very cool 20-something then BAM! ~ marriage and motherhood (or fatherhood) happened. My 30s have been spent being Mom to the adorable Little Write Gal and I wouldn’t have it any other way. That is why the t-shirts from I used to be cool give me such a laugh; because I used to be cool too.  Shannon, the owner and founder of the company, used to be cool (and still is in my opinion), and used her experience to form this fab company. Shannon writes this on the I used to be cool Web site:

There is absolutely no way on this earth to feel hip or sexy or cool driving a minivan. But they are a godsend when you have a 4- and a 3-year-old, and I wouldn’t even think of trading it in right now. When I got my van my friends were making fun of me and I protested, “I used to be cool!” I had a bumper sticker made to let people know that I’m not proud to drive a minivan. It gets a lot of laughs, and I’ve learned that not all van drivers are geeks whose life ambition was to have a soccer sticker in the back window. It just sort of happens…and that van sure is practical…

Slimpressions: Review and Giveaway (ends 4/20)

slimpressionslogo

I love trying out new body shapers so I when I had the chance to test Slimpressions, I was excited.  Most body shapers just address the bottom half of our bodies and neglect the issues women have above the waist.  Slimpressions is a patent-pending line of everyday shapewear designed to slim a woman’s arms, back and midriff.  Slimpressions come in sizes 2 to 22 and in a variety of colors including white, nude, chocolate, and black.  They also come in petite sizes which impressed me as most shaper garments seem to forget about petite girls. Slimpressions prevents the dreaded Muffin Top which is when your tummy hangs over the side of your jeans. Oprah calls Muffin Top, “Dunlap Syndrome;” it happens when your stomach “done lap over your jeans.” :)

slimpresshaves1The two versions of Slimpressions I tested were “The Haves” and “The Skinny Mini.” “The Haves” is for us girls who want to put it all back where it belongs.  The garment features gentle compression which smooths and shapes our dreaded “arm flab” and soft cups for comfy chest coverage.  I like that you do not have to wear a bra with this product.  It also has a long torso which is great for me because I am 5’7.”   I tried it in white and I thought it was a little see through so I would probably wear it underneath a cardigan or jacket.   slimpressskinny1

“The Skinny Mini” features upper body control in the form of a tank top.  The first thing I noticed about this product was that it had adjustable straps which I really like.  I can’t imagine wearing a tank that does not allow you to change the strap size.  Again with this product you do not need to wear a bra underneath.  Some similar products claim to be bra tanks but if you are a big busted girl like me you know they don’t always work.  The Slimpressions does what it says and provides support for your chest area.  It also has a long torso which is a great quality in a shaper garment.

My first thought about shapewear for the arms was that it would be uncomfortable.  Not so with Slimpressions! I was impressed at how comfortable it felt on. Now getting it on was another story. When you wear Slimpressions, make sure you put the garment on according to the directions which say to step into it “from the top, slide up, adjust through the middle, shoulders, and arms, then slim down!”  I tried to put it on the traditional way over my head which was hilarious.  The Little Write Gal was home with me at the time and I called her into the bathroom to rescue Mommy.  She finally did 10 minutes later after she quit laughing.

Slimpressions is giving the Write Gal readers a 25% discount on their purchase.  Just enter WRITEGAL2009 at checkout anytime between now and 5/31/09.  It gets better because one reader can win their choice of shaper garment from the entire site!  That is a $58-$72 value depending on which one you select.  To enter all you have to do is go to the Slimpressions site and tell me in a comment which Slimpressions style and color you would choose.  That’s it.  For extra entries, you can:

  1. Tell me in a separate comment why you need Slimpressions – 1 extra entry.
  2. Blog about my contest and link back to this post and Slimpressions - 5 extra entries. Be sure and leave five separate comments because the winner will be chosen randomly.

Contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 20.  The  winner will be announced on my blog on April 21st and will have 48 hours after I email them to claim their prize.

Ellembee Giveaway (ends April 20th)

shirt1I am always on the lookout for fabulous shirts that are both fashionable an comfortable.  When I came across Ellembee’s shop on Etsy, I knew I had to make a purchase.  Ellembee sells handpainted t-shirts, hoodies, scarves, and even onesies. My favorite product in her line has to be the t-shirts. I am so tired of the boring plain Jane t-shirts that you can find anywhere.  I want fashion, comfort, and style – without looking the same as every other Mom in the carpool line! Ellembee’s designs are very trendy and incorporate chic designs such as chandeliers, flowers, and twigs.  And aren’t those onesies adorable?

Blush Topless Undershirt Review and Giveaway

blush31I want to introduce you to my favorite “Must Have” piece of clothing for every season, the Blush Topless Undershirt.  I have a long torso and as a result often have problems finding tops that are long enough to fit me properly.  I hate wearing tops that ride up or that allow you to expose your midriff when bending over. I have tried to combat this problem by wearing a longer shirt underneath to achieve the “layered look”, but all I manage to accomplish is added bulkiness. Imagine my excitement when I discovered this wonderful product which allows you to extend the length of any top in your wardrobe without the added bulk of wearing a longer shirt or an annoying tanktop underneath.  The topless undershirt is just what it says, “topless.”  It fits very comfortably just like a tube top and your shirts will fit smoothly on top.  I wondered at first if the undershirt would ride up but it stays snugly in place.  Now why couldn’t I have thought of that?

blush1

This is what the Blush undershirt looks like – a tube top.  It is so very easy to wear.  You will be the only one who knows there is not a full-sized top underneath your shirt.

blush4

Are you ready to order yours  yet?  Blush has given The Write Gal readers a coupon code to save 20% when you order 2 or more!  Just go here to order yours and then enter the code welovebloggers at checkout.  Here is more info about Blush from the company’s Web site:

We are just two girls, both looking for the same product until we decided one day to design it. With one of us having a long torso and the other being pregnant, we both had the same problem of our shirts not fitting.

Blush Accessories welcomes you to a product that helps adjust the clothes you already have to fit you perfectly. This is a shirt that is to be worn like a tube top, but around the waist. Our product is made of a poly/rayon/spandex blend, allowing a huge amount of stretch and great support.

You can also easily wear the Blush topless undershirt if you are pregnant.  No special “maternity” wear to buy; according to the Blush FAQ’s, you can simply wear your same size Blush until sometime probably in the second trimester when your Blush may become uncomfortable.  When that happens just order the next size up.  Keep your smaller size to wear after your precious baby has arrived.

I am excited to announce that one lucky Write Gal reader will receive her very own Blush Topless Undershirt!  To enter, it is simple.  Visit the Blush Web site and tell me what color or pattern is your favorite.  Then come back here and tell me in a comment.  Extra entries you ask?  My wish is your command.  You can get extra entries by doing any of the following:

1.  Blog about this contest for an extra 5 entries.  Please link to my post and to the Blush Web site.  Leave me 5 separate comments telling me you blogged and give me the URL of your post (you only have to list the URL one time).  For example:  Blogged 1 – URL; Blogged 2; Blogged 3, etc.

2.  Follow me on Twitter for an extra 5 entries.  If you follow me on Twitter or are a current follower, let me know in 5 separate comments and provide your Twitter username.  You can easily follow me (@writegal) by clicking on the cute birdie icon in my sidebar.

3.  Add me to your Blogroll for an extra 10 entries.  Just add The Write Gal as a link to your blogroll and then leave me 10 separate comments telling me you did so.  If you have your blogroll displayed using buttons feel free to copy mine at the bottom of my sidebar and then link back to my blog.

Everyone can possibly have 21 chances to win! The contest is open to U.S. and Canada residents only and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7.  The winner will be posted here on April 8th and will have 48 hours to claim their prize.
